What are we?
Lyle | May 25, 2011 | 1:17 pm

We recently had a fun review from Leicester Bangs in the UK.
I am very grateful to the good folks at this fine site!
They pointed out that I have no clue as to what category of music I play.
I had made mailing stickers for all the promotional CD’s I sent out of “Meet me in the Park” calling our music “quirky alternative rock with melodic harmony”. Zoikes! I hadn’t realized how off I was. I was unaware how acutely compartmentalized and sub categorized classifying music is. I think I need a chart with graphic explanations. In my glorified view of MBB, I see a touch of the hillbilly I deeply wish I were, a touch of the cowboy my foot wear suggests I am, a touch of loud as per my hair, and a touch pretty folk song melody that my apparent hippie free spirited soul is.
I wish I had the ability to aim when I write. My songs, blogs and stories seem to drift like larval squid. They can swim strait, but the world is so big and it takes us to unexpected places. I admit I love this more than a falafel with hot sauce, more than potato chips with hot sauce and even more than guacamole (with hot sauce).
I think y’all should help. I’d love to hear your view of how to classify this here music I make.
Careful though, I am sensitive. I am a pisces after all!
The best response gets a free “Meet me in the Park” CD mailed to them.

An tangent is a tangent.....

“Meet me in the Park” release date is April 19th

It’s time! After a year since the release of “Banned Wagon” we are ready.
This release will have a CD pressed and a limited number of posters. Of course, we will have a full digital release on itunes, amazon and the rest of the oh so convenient music suppliers. The CD’s will be available directly through us, CD baby, and Amazon.
“Meet me in the Park” is a lil’ louder and edgier, while the melodic harmonies still rule the day. Course louder harmonies can still be melodic, eh?
I’d love to press vinyl, perhaps we shall try this summer when things settle down.

“Taking my Time” Single released today!
Lyle | June 15, 2010 | 11:36 am

We went back to master master’er Mark Dann’s studio a couple weeks ago and remixed three songs.

I felt like the album versions were good, but out of the context of the whole I wanted a stream lined version. You can hear “Taking my Time” on itunes.

Again, I stripped off the synths and wall of sound type legos I built around my song.

I focused on the vocals and bass. I love the bass line and wanted it to carry through.

Hill’s vocals had such a nice blending with mine….. it made me all happy.

I hope y’all like the end result!

“Lost in Ohio Reprise” Released!
Lyle | June 14, 2010 | 9:15 am

This morning we released ” Lost in Ohio Reprise”.

This is a near instrumental version of the song “Lost in Ohio” from our album “Banned Wagon”.

We stripped off some texture, and vocals. The heart of this song is the mood and mildly off intonation that happens when something goes wrong on a road trip.

In this case, something very wrong.

On the album version you get the implication of the story.

On this single, just the mood that something is wrong, but you can’t just run.
